Bio

Hello to parents, students, and anybody else who has come to visit this page.  My name is Shylar Brooks and I am one of three Ag teachers/FFA advisors here at Calallen HS.

I am originally from the South Texas area, growing up in Kingsville.  As a child i was always interested with how things worked mechanically; if i had the opportunity to take something apart it was done in short order. Sometimes going back together was another story :).  Fast forward to my first job out of High school.  In September of 1994 i enlisted in the US Navy and began my career as an aircraft engine mechanic. I was stationed at NAS Oceana which is in Virginia Beach, VA and worked on F-14's.  I also met the love of my life, Laura, who is now my wife of 16 years.   It was an eye opening experience getting to visit countries all throughout the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf which is why if asked how I'm doing I'll let you know "Living the dream!"

After completing a 5 year enlistment I made my transition back into the civilian world by attending an aviation maintenance technical college in Houston where i received my A&P license.  I went to work for Delta airlines in Atlanta Georgia April of 2001, after the downturn of the aviation industry caused by the 9/11 attacks i was layed off and went to work for Lockheed Martin in Marietta, GA.  My duties there were on the F-22 Raptor project.  I was a structures Mechanic as well as an Inspector.  Laura and i had our one and only child Curtis at this time also.  I then left Lockheed to return to my childhood home of Kingsville.  I went to work for L-3 Vertex as an aircraft mechanic, during this time i also began to go to college.  As my career at L-3 continued i changed jobs from a mechanic into management starting out in the aircraft painting facility and ultimately working in maintenance control overseeing maintenance tasks performed to keep jets flying so Navy and Marine Corps. pilots could earn their wings.

While in college i did my student observations at Bishop and Riviera High Schools, and completed my student teaching at H.M. King high school in Kingsville.  I graduated from TAMUK in the spring of 2014 with a B.S. in Agricultural Science and was hired at Calallen ISD in July 14.

I have been at Calallen for Three years now and have enjoyed every minute of it.
